7/6/2019 // Ohtaka's Interview on Natalie
Ohtaka was interviewed on Comic Natalie regarding Disney's new Aladdin remake movie. The two page interview first asks Ohtaka's general opinions on the new movie and the actors. On the second page, they ask her more about the creation process of Magi. She said that she didn't dare to refer to Disney's Aladdin movie from 1992 in Magi even though she had seen it, because she didn't want there to be any issues as the Disney movie is so well known. She said that she was planning on making a gladiator manga set in the Roman Empire, but it was too dark, so she picked One Thousand and One Nights. Those fairytales, according to her, have elements to them that resonate even with modern day people. She wanted to make the fantasy world as different from Japan as possible, and said that some things can be portrayed in a fantasy setting that wouldn't work in a drama. She talks a lot about the visuals and the colours, and praised the colours and costumes of the characters in the new movie. After this, they talk more about the movie, including the Japanese voice acting.
